There are quite a few of these mysterious trees lining the street near my work. But I don't know what they are.
I am not a native of Lubbock, nor even of Texas. I was born and raised in Greenfield, Indiana, spent a couple of years living in Glasgow, Scotland, and then landed in Lubbock where I've been ever since. Have a look!

Butterfly bush is what my wife calls ours. If you treat them right and shape them they can seem like trees in due time.

That is a very mature Buddlia comon name, butterfly bush. I have a younger one in my front garden, but it isnt flowering yet. I guess Canada is a little slower to flower than Lubbock!
Darn the latitude! :) Yes, what with the rain, then heat, then rain, then more heat, etc., that we've had lately, all the plants are looking wonderful. I just can't believe I never noticed these things last summer.
