I am not a native of Lubbock, nor even of Texas. I was born and raised in Greenfield, Indiana, spent a couple of years living in Glasgow, Scotland, and then landed in Lubbock where I've been ever since. Have a look!

Downtown

So for the next week or so, there will be a guest photographer here at Lubbock Daily Photo. These pictures are from Ruth Warren. I hope you enjoy them!

21 November 2007

Messing with Texas

Not the most appealing picture I've ever taken! Litterers frustrate me to no end-- the more so here because there are rubbish bins just a few yards away.

18 November 2007

I knew him well...

This was the last of a fence around a baseball diamond that was torn out.

Hanging on to summer

11 November 2007

They've torn up my park!

Apparently, the powers that be are building some kind of sports centre in this park, which I suppose will replace the two baseball fields they took out. I don't know what will be replacing the trees and grass which were likewise torn up.

Out for a swim

Or, maybe just a look round. I don't know that these birds actually swim.

Time to be Outfitted

The place to go if I wanted to be all geared up for the Tech game tomorrow.

06 November 2007

Yuck

This was so gross... he was spraying fertiliser, which I suppose is somewhat necessary, but it smelled horrible and I went back to work smelling like chemicals.

30 October 2007

A bit windy

We had quite a windstorm a couple of weeks ago; this tree was one of the casualties.

26 October 2007

Pretty in pink

Or is it more salmon?

25 October 2007

Fancy a snack?

24 October 2007

I may have posted this already, but this is a beautiful building, so it is certainly worth a second look. (Or a first!)

22 October 2007

This looks like half a building to me.

21 October 2007

Which way?

20 October 2007

Blogger photo uploading is currently down. Sigh.

19 October 2007

I like it when traffic is so light that my husband can stand in the middle of the street.

18 October 2007

Just for you

I'm sure this wall was put up just for the birds to have a nice place to sit!

17 October 2007

I love this sign.

16 October 2007

I liked the brick on this building.

14 October 2007

In an effort to keep the lakes clean

This in on a storm drain.

13 October 2007

Have a seat

I think these concrete pillars are technically designed to keep out-of-control cars from crashing into the building. However, they also strike me as a nice place to sit and watch life go by for a few minutes. Or to just eat lunch.

12 October 2007

Where's the traffic?

11 October 2007

This is an old hotel in downtown Lubbock. It has been used for office space in recent years, though most recently it hasn't been used at all. A developer (or whatever you call them) in town has bought the building and is remodeling it into apartments that no ordinary person will ever be able to afford.

Lunch?

06 October 2007

How did he get there?

I do not know the purpose of this statue, but it does give passers-by something to smile at!

05 October 2007

The Tower

This beautiful old church in downtown does not seem to fit in with the architecture of the buildings around it, but it has been there so long that it is hard to notice that it looks different.

04 October 2007

Who's there?

03 October 2007

Rough Ride

A lot of the downtown streets have been left as brick.

02 October 2007

Time to get away

This is the terminus for the interstate coaches, not the city buses. T.N.M.&O. stands for Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma.

Theme Day

30 September 2007

Christmas in... September?

The Christmas lights on these trees are permanently attached. If I was the one to put them up, I'd want them to be up permanently, too!

29 September 2007

A Nice Building...

That happens to have the name "Baker" on the front! Well, I was done with Baker Co. but decided to finish up the theme with this building right up the street, The Baker Building. It is a popular site for weddings; in fact, one was in progress (or at least about to be in progress) as we went by.

28 September 2007

And finally...

I promise, this is my last Baker Co. post!

27 September 2007

More of the Baker Co.

I've got quite a theme going here, but really, this building has been here for so long it just has a lot of fun-looking stuff on it!

26 September 2007

The building was here first!

This stop sign barely fits under the overhang of the building, but there is nowhere else to put it!

25 September 2007

This is the same company from yesterday. It is one of the oldest businesses in Lubbock; of course, the city itself is not quite 100 years old.

24 September 2007

They are serious about this!

I don't know when this sign was put up, but it looks like it has been there a while! There is one in front of every parking space along the building, but this was the only parking space actually available; all of the others had company vans parked in them.

23 September 2007

Race for the Cure

We ran in the local Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure yesterday. I couldn't carry my camera while running (I have a hard enough time propelling myself forward; I couldn't possibly keep track of anything else!), but I did get this shot of the finish line afterwards.

22 September 2007

Keeping the police in shape

We have police on horseback, too, but they usually only come out for festivals and other crowd-gathering events.

21 September 2007

Same office

The office also has these nice gratings over the windows.

20 September 2007

I don't think they cut the trees themselves

This little office in the middle of Lubbock has wooden posts holding up the awning.

19 September 2007

What a nice sign

I don't know for sure what this sign represents, but if I were to hazard a guess I'd say it's something to do with Jesus calming the storm, or perhaps a "fishers of men" reference.

18 September 2007

Come in

The entrance to a downtown church.

17 September 2007

So ticket me, already

So my husband and I went downtown on Saturday to get some Lubbock DP shots, since it's been more like "Lubbock Occasional Photo" these past couple of months. We parked in this lot, only to see this sign afterwards. I was not worried, because it was Saturday and no-one, apart from the bus drivers, works downtown on the weekends. Not even the parking enforcement. My husband, however, was concerned that we might get a ticket, so he went back and moved the car.

16 September 2007

I don't know what "Endless Love" is, and I'm not sure that I want to find out. But I do like the look of these shops.

15 September 2007

Looking for Food

These geese live next to a library that hands out bread crumbs for patrons to feed them. As such, they are considerably calmer and friendlier than the geese in the park near my work, who have tried to eat me in the past.

Our neighbour's flowers are in full bloom!
