I am not a native of Lubbock, nor even of Texas. I was born and raised in Greenfield, Indiana, spent a couple of years living in Glasgow, Scotland, and then landed in Lubbock where I've been ever since. Have a look!

So ticket me, already

So my husband and I went downtown on Saturday to get some Lubbock DP shots, since it's been more like "Lubbock Occasional Photo" these past couple of months. We parked in this lot, only to see this sign afterwards. I was not worried, because it was Saturday and no-one, apart from the bus drivers, works downtown on the weekends. Not even the parking enforcement. My husband, however, was concerned that we might get a ticket, so he went back and moved the car.

I don't know what "Endless Love" is, and I'm not sure that I want to find out. But I do like the look of these shops.

Looking for Food

These geese live next to a library that hands out bread crumbs for patrons to feed them. As such, they are considerably calmer and friendlier than the geese in the park near my work, who have tried to eat me in the past.

Powering Young Minds

These windmills are not technically in Lubbock, but are actually in a small town about 15 minutes away (where the aforementioned race took place on Saturday). These two windmills, plus another that was behind where I was standing, provide electricity for the town's schools.

Intermission

Every year in Lubbock, there is a free Shakespearean play put on in a city park, appropriately entitled "Shakespeare in the Park." This weekend, the citizens of Lubbock were treated to A Midsummer Night's Dream in our very nice (and relatively new) ampitheatre.

Race Day

The finish chute had been taken down, but the clock was still running after a 10 K on Saturday.

After the Storm

I never get tired of taking pictures of the sky. This is right after a storm ended.

Lunar Eclipse

So this is the very end of our lunar eclipse this morning. Unfortunately, I have a hard time holding the camera still! Hence the reason there are three moons!
We were out running for most of the eclipse, and I didn't have my camera with me. But it was pretty cool.

All Serene

But not for long! Students and college football will be returning soon.

14 August 2007

What?

I think it's supposed to be a tornado, possibly in a nursery.

And another one.

Clouds

The lack of mountains (and small numbers of trees) does allow for a magnificent view of the sky.

11 August 2007

If only.

I think I've mentioned before the lack of mountains around Lubbock. But, as also mentioned, it is worth the drive from time to time.

Hard-Working Machines

So I happened to see the Weather Channel a couple of mornings ago, and it was only 7 AM (Central time) and already every city listed on the ticker was over 75 degrees. So I suppose it's been a hot week everywhere.

Good Morning

This is more my husband's typical breakfast, actually.
