I am not a native of Lubbock, nor even of Texas. I was born and raised in Greenfield, Indiana, spent a couple of years living in Glasgow, Scotland, and then landed in Lubbock where I've been ever since. Have a look!

16 July 2007

This is for you, Amy

15 July 2007

If only I could play.

I had meant to have this picture last week for the end of Wimbledon, but the fates conspired against me and I couldn't get over there. Here, then, is our local tennis supply shop.

14 July 2007

Sprinklers

This was a taboo action just a few weeks ago; the city was under a watering ban for most of the month of June. The ban was lifted in stages, and was finally rescinded throughout the city on July 4.

12 July 2007

This one is accurate

It has to be, because "Around the Clock Storage" is the business name and apparently they quite like their clock!

10 July 2007

For your caffiene fix.

09 July 2007

So you don't fall down the stairs.

This light looks equally decorative when knocked sideways.

08 July 2007

Rock on.

07 July 2007

Does anyone know what this is?

There are quite a few of these mysterious trees lining the street near my work. But I don't know what they are.

06 July 2007

Home of the early return credit!

05 July 2007

Will Rogers

I had a Texas Tech University alumnus stop by, so here's a popular TTU landmark.

04 July 2007

Independence Day

03 July 2007

Pointy

Continuing with my fascination with arches, this is the front of a shopping centre.

02 July 2007

Nice place to worship

I think this is one of the prettiest church buildings in Lubbock. I've never been inside it, but I've heard the inside is also quite nice.

01 July 2007

Are you thirsty?

30 June 2007

Sounds like a fun place to be.

29 June 2007

The Doors

The Ski Lubbock shop also has really nice gates and doors.

28 June 2007

But I need ski poles NOW!

Naturally, the store does not see a lot of business during the summer.

27 June 2007

Didn't even know you could!

It seems a bit ludicrous to have a shop called "Ski Lubbock" since the nearest place to ski is at least a 4-hour drive away, and our average yearly snowfall is somewhere around 8 inches. And yet, here it is!

26 June 2007

Let's Go Skiing!

This is a shop I'll post some closer pics of in the next couple of days, but I wanted to start off with the big picture.

25 June 2007

I don't think they are really Irish

24 June 2007

The stair to nowhere

Okay, so there is a door there.

23 June 2007

Taking a Rest

This little fellow was very patient while I took several pictures of him.

13 June 2007

What's the time?

11 June 2007

With one exception

10 June 2007

A Nice Place to Eat

With a rather photogenic sign!

09 June 2007

A bit battered.

Unfortunately, the entire shopping centre is maintained about as well as this sign.

07 June 2007

Sounds bright.

You'd have a colourful tongue after one of these!

06 June 2007

Let there be light...

Of course, it isn't really necessary at 3 in the afternoon.

04 June 2007

My Husband is Very Clever

03 June 2007

The Chamber

Oh, my, this blog seems to have disintegrated into "Lubbock Some Days Photo." Please accept my apologies as I try to get everything around here settled down again!

I have some photos in mind that I'm looking forward to sharing, and I haven't forgotten the requests I received! I am hoping to get to them all soon, but hesitate to give a time frame, because there is no telling what is going to happen next.

29 May 2007

Arches

The school does not make up this entire centre, but this picture reminds me of a posh school in a movie.
Sorry for my absence the last few days; we went to see my brother-in-law graduate and I didn't have time to get my posts set up in advance.

22 May 2007

Kind of old

I took this picture because of the "Established 1932" line; that's about as old as things get around here. :)

19 May 2007

Oops.

18 May 2007

Someone IS there!

This little outdoor cafe is finally getting some use again after sitting empty all winter.

17 May 2007

Ivy-covered trees

16 May 2007

Flowers

This little bunch of flowers is taped to a stop sign. Ordinarily, one only sees this sort of display where there has been a fatal auto accident, although this one is less that two blocks from my apartment and I'm sure I would have heard if that had happened. Perhaps someone wanted to be festive.

15 May 2007

I'll just get the bus, then...

In honour of petrol prices continuing to skyrocket, here's a photo of a place I expect to spend a great deal of time in the near future.

14 May 2007

Dome of the Municipal Arena

As seen from the opposite side of the track.

12 May 2007

Mooving Day

If you haven't been already, pop over to Lynn's blog to see the picture of the girl who was abducted while on holiday in Portugal... she could easily be anywhere by now.

Well, the city exchange was last week, but I dearly wanted to share this photograph. I'd only been in Indiana a few hours last Saturday when a neighbouring farmer needed to move his cattle from one pasture to another. So here they are, passing in front of my parents' house.

Again please do go look at the pictures on Lynn's blog. Thanks!

11 May 2007

The rest of the story

This is the far end of the sculpture area from a few days ago. The more interesting part, you might say.

10 May 2007

Educational and fun!

I love this-- it's part of a playground. There is also a section with the Braille alphabet.

09 May 2007

Looks normal to me.

So I didn't post yesterday because I was flying between Indianapolis and Lubbock. Can't tell you how happy I was to get back. But my trip to Indiana was my inspiration for this post, because the fire hydrants in Greenfield are all different colours. They all also have a reflective strip just below the "lid" (I'm sure there's a proper word for it, but I do not know what it is). But here in Lubbock, the fire hydrants all look like this. At least, I can't think of any I've seen that do not.

07 May 2007

# 100

The 100th Lubbock DP Post is this sculpture/seating area.

06 May 2007

Decoration

This rather lovely decorative screen is on a parking garage.

05 May 2007

Buddy Holly

I think these banners are part of revatilising downtown Lubbock.

04 May 2007

Closed

No prizes for guessing what this was before it was closed.

03 May 2007

Keep Lubbock Running.

02 May 2007

Perhaps I should buy a ticket.

I could probably find some uses for $6 million!

01 May 2007

Glasgow

If anyone was fooled into thinking this is a Scotland-themed street in Lubbock, let me just say, I can only dream of being so lucky. :) This is, in fact, the corner of Argyle and Jamica streets in the heart of the Glasgow city centre.
Check out the other daily photo blogs participating in the 1st May theme day, "City Exchange."
